Welcome to The Spelling Bee Hub ("we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at spellbeehub.com and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information.
1. Who May Use the Service
You may use the Service if you can form a binding contract with us and are not barred from doing so under applicable law. If you are under the age of 13 (or under the age of 16 in the EEA/UK), your account must be created and authorized by a parent, legal guardian, or through a school or teacher who has the legal authority to provide consent on your behalf. Accounts for children are intended to be created and managed by a responsible adult.
2. Accounts
- You can sign in with Google or create a local email/password account.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
Account deletion. You may stop using the Service at any time. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting support@spellbeehub.com. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable time, except where we must retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or billing records).
3. Subscriptions and Billing
The Service offers free and paid subscription tiers (currently Plus, Coach, and Classroom). If and when paid plans are enabled:
- Prices are shown at the point of purchase and may change with notice.
- Paid subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
- Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full payment card details.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription through the billing portal. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.
4. Custom Lists and User Content
Paid users and eligible classroom students may upload or create custom word lists ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display it solely to operate and improve the Service (for example, generating pronunciation audio). We do not claim ownership of your User Content and will not sell or license your User Content to third parties.
You represent that you have the right to upload any User Content and that it does not infringe the rights of others. You must not upload copyrighted word lists, proprietary competition materials, or inappropriate content unless you have permission.
Copyright complaints (DMCA). If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@spellbeehub.com including: (1) identification of the copyrighted work; (2) identification of the material claimed to be infringing; (3) your contact information; (4) a statement of good-faith belief; and (5) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
We reserve the right to remove any User Content from the Service at any time, without prior notice, if we believe it violates these Terms, infringes on third-party intellectual property rights, or is otherwise inappropriate.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service.
- Abuse automated features (such as pronunciation generation) or attempt to circumvent usage limits.
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes the rights of others.
6. Educational and Classroom Use
Teachers, schools, and school districts utilizing the Classroom tier ("Educational Institutions") assume the responsibility of obtaining any necessary parental consent under applicable privacy laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). By inviting students to the Service, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to consent to The Spelling Bee Hub's collection and processing of student data for educational purposes. Invite codes should be shared only with intended participants.
We use student information only to provide the Service. We do not use student data to advertise or market to students or their parents, and we do not permit data mining or profiling of students for targeted advertising. Schools and teachers may request access to student progress data associated with their classroom. Parents or guardians may contact us or their school to request access to a child's information, consistent with applicable law.
7. Service Availability
We strive to keep the Service available, but we may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, text, graphics, and software, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Official word lists and study content are provided for personal, educational practice only.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content (including definitions, pronunciations, or word lists) is complete or accurate. Pronunciations, definitions, study aids, and other generated or third-party content may contain errors and should be used for educational practice only.
THE SPELLING BEE HUB IS AN INDEPENDENT PRACTICE PLATFORM AND IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH, ENDORSED BY, OR SPONSORED BY SCRIPPS OR THE SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, we may delete or retain data as described in our Privacy Policy and as required by law. Certain provisions survive termination, including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Arkansas, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. For schools and districts using the Classroom tier, we will not materially change how we collect, use, or share student data without appropriate notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
